Unstructured.

My favorite go-to item in my closet these days is my unstructured blazer. I love the effortless draping without the structure of a traditional lapel in the blazer. Not only that, I am definitely a girl that loves to add a little bit of edge to any outfit and the faux leather sleeves easily add that element. I had been searching for a blazer like this for some time so I was overjoyed when I found it at Dynamite on Robson Street in Downtown Vancouver for a steal of a deal at around $30 CAD.

And unstructured kind of defines my life at the moment. Up until June of this year, as long as I can remember, I had a strong sense of structure in my life. Whether it was daily practicing for piano growing up, rigorous drumline practices after school with weekend competitions, and of course there is the structure that being in school gives you. As I moved on to Optometry school after undergrad, the structure in my life was more evident than ever. My life revolved around when I was to be present in class, clinic, studying for exams, and scheduling practice sessions with classmates. I remember, during one lunch session with my colleagues, we realized nearly every single person in our class had a Type A personality.

So, I admit it, I just committed the ultimate faux pas and went to Wikipedia for my definition of a Type A Personality. And, well, it’s description of this personality type describes me so well that it’s almost scary. I’m not always proud of being someone who is a Type A personality but here is the description:

“The theory describes a Type A individual as ambitious, rigidly organized, highly status conscious, can be sensitive, truthful, impatient, always try to help others, take on more than they can handle, want other people to get to the point, proactive and obsessed with time management.”

So these days, as I am still waiting for my PR in Canada before I can find my Optometrist dream job, I am here, living my life a little unstructured. And although it took me a while to feel this way, I have to admit… it’s kind of therapeutic.

Your photographs are beautiful as well as your outfit! I don’t know why I just gravitate towards black and white but I like the coordination of this look.

Don’t worry, you’ll eventually get that dream job and will be so busy, you’ll think back on this time and wish that you had more time on your hands to do other things.

It’s so nice to see you relaxed and enjoying your time now in Vancouver! There will be plenty of time later to be structured again. Love the outfit as well as your hair in pony tail, keep up the good work!
